Pigface/Dope/Hanzel Und Gretyl/ Professional Murder Music/ Rachel Stamp
BB Kings NYC 11.17.03

The show was pretty dull to tell you the truth. At least until Dope took stage. But there were a few bands before them. The first band was Rachel Stamp. They were all right. Not the best band I've seen but definitely not the worst. RS got points in my book for being from London. Also it did take me a good part of their set to figure out whether the lead singer was male or female and that amused me. I finally decided that he was male. Even though I can still be wrong about that. I was unfamiliar with their music and the crowd was just milling around the club chatting to people through their set.

The second band up was Professional Murder Music. I was actually looking forward to seeing them. My anticipation was shattered. In my opinion they had absolutely no charisma. And no talent live either. They are kind of like Our Lady Peace. Decent on record, sucks my ovaries live.

Next up was Hanzel Und Gretyl. I've heard good things about this band so I was hoping that the show would finally be blown open. It was.. maybe. Kind of? Not really. The band was good.. and to even better them Acey Slade was on bass for their set. However Acey was having a bad day. The bass techs continually had to climb onstage to fix the wires on his bass. They had to switch like three times the sets of wires. Then they just gave up and produced a new bass for him to play. It seemed to have worked.. but then Acey swung it around as he was playing and he guitar strap broke. It was about then that Acey sunk down into this adorable little stance and played the rest of the set on his knees. I found the breaking of the strap funny. Like not totally funny haha.. just like oh my! poor Acey!. So I was laughing then he caught my eye onstage and started laughing as well. Besides all this drama the crowd was dead for their set. I personally don't see why though. That girl knows how to sing! I would definitely go see a show that they headline at.

Thankfully our saviors of the night were up next. The four beautiful and talented men in Dope. Edsel came out and immediately said shit about the lackluster of the crowd. He asked us if we were going to be the New Yorkers he loves and would die for.. or if we were going to be a bunch of faggy faeries who are too afraid to bump into the other people around us because it would smear our makeup. That got the response he was looking forward and they blew open the stage. Their set list was:
Motivation
Now or Never
Sick
Bring it On
Bitch
Spin me Right Round
I am
What About?
Fuck the Police
Die Mother Fucker Die

The band had high energy throughout the set. Just perfect really. This set was one of the best I've seen from them. After their set I gave up my front spot to go hang out with them.

The Pigface set was long and relatively uninteresting for me. Luckily I had such great company otherwise I may have been forced to slit my wrists with my keys. The best part had to be when Edsel got onstage to do Bitch with them. And when Racci brought one part of his drums onstage and started beating it like a madman. The crowd was into the whole set though so I give them points for that.
