“Rastaman Vibes” is a fitting opening song as the energy and spirit is one of joyous celebration. “Stir It Up”, one of many crowd pleasers, continues to get this NYC audience increasingly pumped. The Original Wailers then jam on the classics with “Get Up Stand Up” and “I Shot The Sheriff”. This one-two punch shows why the Wailers will always be the premier reggae band. Junior Marvin’s soaring vocals and Al Anderson’s explosive guitar highlight the band’s live show. These two have been with the band since the 70’s and truly deliver the goods. Al’s ability to shred, but also play tight and reserved makes him a great guitar player. “Three Little Birds” features the beautiful background harmonies of Erica Newell and Rochelle Bradshaw, whose vocal talents really blend in nicely. Former Wailers vocalist Gary “Nesta” Pine joined the band for “Jammin’”, and the band and crowd played off each other in feverish fashion. The group finished their set with the classic “Exodus”, the title track of the album that featured Junior Marvin’s debut.
Band members may come and go, but the Original Wailers keep Bob and Peter’s vision alive with their smokin’ grooves. The BB King’s audience screamed and danced along to every song, showing that there will always be a demand for the political and party-themed anthems of the Original Wailers.
