Interview with Jordan Mancino

March 4, 2006
Kristin chats with Jordan Mancino during the Taste of Chaos
tour. She was supposed to chat with Nick Hipa, but he was feeling a little
under the weather.
KRISTIN- It says that the last time Bacstagepass talked to you, well Nick ..so
what has been going on since then?
JORDAN MANCINO- Um, when was the last time you talked to
us?
KRISTIN- I think it was back in November.
JORDAN- Was it the Slipknot tour then?
KRISTIN- Might of been.
JORDAN- Well since then we've done, well after that tour
we did a headline tour with Norma Jean, Madball and A Life Once Lost. Then we
were on break for about like six weeks before we started this tour.
KRISTIN- How did you spend New Years?
JORDAN- Um...Um.
KRISTIN- C'mon fess up?
JORDAN- (laughs) Honestly I am trying to think. Honestly
you know what I think I did nothing for New Years. I really didn't do anything
we had just gotten home and it was just after the holidays- we got home I think
the 22nd of December so it was like I had to do all my Christmas shopping in
like two days. (Laughs) you know so after doing that and doing like Christmas
and that stuff I was just so wiped out from that and touring. I think I just
hung around my house.
KRISTIN- I was in bed by 9 p.m.- how pathetic is that.
JORDAN- (laughs) I think I went to my aunt and uncle's for
dinner and that was about it. I really just took it easy.
KRISTIN- How is this tour "The Taste Of Chaos" working for you?
JORDAN- Awesome, this tours been amazing. It's a whole
new.. for us it's a whole new crowd you know- we've done like all metal tours
until now. It's still kind of a little bit hard for us but it's not like the
heaviest. It's just a little different for us. This concert has been amazing!
We're a heavier band on this tour so we stick out and hopefully kids will
remember us.
KRISTIN- Is your time slot good or bad?
JORDAN- Good it's good. You know I mean the way it works
is they have um side stage bands and main stage bands. We're playing on the main
stage but like between each main stage a band plays on the side stage. We play
pretty early around 6-6:30 p.m. something like that. It's been great um like
some of the shows they told kids that the doors were actually later than they
were so they didn't come in. Usually when we play it's pretty packed.
KRISTIN- Whose the first band on?
JORDAN- Funeral For A Friend is the first main stage and
then the side stage band- they all kind of rotate so...
KRISTIN- Oh ok. How is the "Taste Of Chaos" different from the "Sounds Of
The Underground" tour?
JORDAN- Well this is a little bit you know lighter...
KRISTIN- Then like you said your normal crowd...
JORDAN- Yeah the "Sounds Of The Underground" is definitely
going to be like a metal tour you know, like for us I mean. I am kind of nervous
to headline you know.
KRISTIN- Yeah that's my next question.
JORDAN- Playing over bands like Canibal Corpse, In flames
or like the bands we've listened to for years you know and bands I respect. It's
nerve wracking you know. (laughs)
KRISTIN- Yea.
JORDAN- But it's also exciting I mean and um I think the
tours going to go great.
KRISTIN- You guys seem to be constantly touring, your like relentless-
how do you mix things up for each tour?
JORDAN- You mean like...
KRISTIN- Um I guess it means maybe the music, the set list or...
JORDAN- Oh yea! We- it's when we do a headline tour we'll
have a longer set like an hour or whatever. Depends on how much time we have you
know we always - there's always songs that like I wouldn't say have to play but
we want to play you know because we put out videos or singles ..or whatever you
know songs that we like we try to ..
KRISTIN- Mix it up?
JORDAN- Like for kids that come and see us every time we
play- give them something new you know what I mean?
KRISTIN- Whose your favorite band out of this line up? Who do you enjoy
watching play?
JORDAN- Well I love watching the Deftones.
KRISTIN- I love the Deftones, they have to be one of my favorite bands.
JORDAN- And this has been the only time I've been able to
see them.
KRISTIN- Really?
JORDAN- I remember I bought tickets like five, six years
ago to go see them and me, my brother, and my cousin like drove all the way,
like two hours away from where we live and we get there and it says the Deftones
show was cancelled.
KRISTIN- That fuckin sucks.
JORDAN- I know we were all like what the hell! yeah this
is the first time seeing them. I respect them a great deal and they really are
an amazing band.
KRISTIN- They put on a good show.
JORDAN- They do.
KRISTIN- If we were to snoop thru your things what would be the most
embarrassing thing we'd find?
JORDAN- Um...Um...I don't know. Um...let's see.. (long
pause)
KRISTIN- You got to many huh!
JORDAN- (Laughs) No I am trying to think- Nothing I am not
trying to hide anything. (laughing)
KRISTIN- I'm Kidding.
JORDAN- Still trying to think here...(long silence) laughs
hysterically
KRISTIN- Ok he's not fessing up. What bands are you currently listening
to?
JORDAN- This metal band called Dragon Force, really
amazing like really fast.
KRISTIN- I recently heard of this band call Demon Hunter from this guy up
the street. They are pretty wicked.
JORDAN- Yeah I heard of them.
KRISTIN- Aren't they labeled Christian or something.
JORDAN- They're cool.
KRISTIN- What was your motivation behind your "The Darkest Nights" video?
JORDAN- Well actually the director was the one to give us
the treatment. We wanted to do something with more concept as opposed to um I
guess our earlier videos you know but....
KRISTIN- What was the meaning behind it?
JORDAN.- Well I mean it's just essentially like I mean
these villagers, these black riders or whatever and their going into the small
village and just start massacring people you know whatever and zooms in on this
husband, wife and their baby.
KRISTIN- Yeah.
JORDAN- So their trying to outrun these black riders you
know and the husband ends up dying and the wife is finally saved by these white
riders. It's very epic.
KRISTIN- Have you guys been partying hard this tour?
JORDAN- Not really. We really pretty mellow.
KRISTIN- Been there done that?
JORDAN- It's a long tour you know we just want to make the
best of it.
KRISTIN- When does this tour end?
JORDAN- April 16th or 15th I think.
KRISTIN- When do you start your "Sounds Of The Underground" tour?
JORDAN- I think the end of June or July, something like
that. It's not for sure yet.
KRISTIN- Do you have anything you'd like to say to your fans?
JORDAN- Just uh you know we love and appreciate
everything...really.
KRISTIN- Well thank you so much for your time.
JORDAN- We'll be signing stuff later after the show at the
Alternative Press booth.
KRISTIN- Cool, I'll have to stop by.
