A Perfect Circle Nassau Coliseum, NY 05.07.04

I left Brooklyn with my friend around 4:30. The train ride was dull even with my auditory hallucinations of hearing one stop announced as Guns N Roses. Got to the venue and we didn't have a whole lot of time to wait until doors opened. But during that time frame we found a ton of people to make fun of. Especially these two chick who looked as if they were auditioning for the parts of Groupie A and Groupie B in a movie. Not only did their taste in clothes positively suck, their personalities weren't much better. Doors opened and Flo and I went to find our seats. We had originally been unable to get two seats together so our tickets were a few rows apart. But the usher was really nice and let Flo take the seat next to me. And everyone in our section really didn't care where they sat. To me it seems as if APC fans are very laid back about everything. Which is cool, and a nice change from some of the fucking psychos I deal with at other shows. Not that being fucking psycho is a bad thing.. it just gets a bit tiresome after a while.

First opening band was Mini-Kiss. They were great! And so tiny! I think I want to find them at their next tour and keep them in my pocket. Their covers of the Kiss songs were really good. Unfortunately they only had a twenty minute set. in my opinion they should have had a longer set than the other opener.

The other opener was Burning Brides. The music was all right and they get points for having a female bass player, but the vocals were awful. Often through the set it sounded like something we would hear at this shitty DIY venue that I used to go to. Thankfully the set ended and I still had my hearing.

During the break between their set and APC, this blonde girl came and joined Flo and I. She was really nice and has seen APC 10 times on this tour. That's pretty badass. The only band I've seen that many times is Dope. We spoke to her until APC hit the stage.

The band is seriously one of the best I've seen live. If I had to sum up the show in one word, that word would be atmosphere. Maynard's voice is mind blowing in person. Twiggy is a very close second to Nikki Sixx for bassists in my opinion. James amused me with his platinum blonde hair. Billy and Josh are very talented as well. Josh is a great drummer for their style of music. And Billy's guitar playing is excellent. They played a long set and I loved each song. Even the Package and The Nurse who Loved Me sounded awesome and those are the two songs I skip when listening to the CD. Twiggz has a great voice and he really shined during The Noose and a few other songs. His demeanor onstage is much more calm than it used to be with his past bands, but suits him well. He comes off very sweet and gentle [which isn't too varying from his actual person]. He looked fantastic too. Speaking of fantastic.. Maynard's ass. Damn! Sorry I had to say that. It wasn't as if he was trying to hide it anyway. Contorting his body like that. Some of the twists and turns he did would put the acrobats in Barnum and Bailey's to shame. He also seemed to be in a very good mood with his ramblings about CA, nipples and censorship. Kept the audience laughing. I was kind of sad when the show ended [set closed with a great rendition of Judith]. I would have sat there for hours on end listening to them. Even if they repeated songs!

All in all it was a very awesome night and I would love to see them again. Perhaps in a more intimate venue though. I think that if they did a small club tour the effect of their set would be stronger. Either way next time A Perfect Circle come to NY or CT I'm there!
