While listening to "Five Score And Seven Years Ago" It made me think back
to this green eyed guy that shouldn't of but did, capture my heart...even if It
was only briefly. This CD is a snappy upbeat way for this guy to decide if his
glass is 1/2 full or 1/2 empty. For us it's like a soap opera for the ears.
...go ahead air that dirty laundry it kept me interested in what else would
happen. Relient K's fans find them to be inspiring and very insightful on the
ups and downs of a heated relationship.
The band is now a quintet and each and every member contributes to the
vocals whether it be harmonizing or background they all pitch in. The song "Must
Of Done Something Right" is total tongue in cheek with it's cutesy lines like
the opening one "We should get jerseys cause we make a good team" You can hear
the Beach Boys influence on the boys in this one. I can just see the middle
school girls sitting in their room swooning over Matt Thiessen' s lascivious
voice while bopping around to the beat thinking of their crush at school ..God I
miss those days!
Matt Thiessen also has a little side project going on, his other band is
called "Matt Thiessen and The Earthquakes" and promises that as soon as he gets
some free time he'll try and get an album or two out there for his fans to
experience his other fancy. The lyrics to the tracks on "Five Score And seven
Years Ago" are pretty easy to follow it's like paint by numbers for the heart.
They sing about all these feelings you probably feel but can't put into words,
and mainly in a way to make light of a touchy subject.
"Deathbed" features special guest vocalist Jon Foreman from the band
Switchfoot. It's about a man's life and how the last moments of it bring keen
observations and aural ironies. Relient K were a little nervous to go into the
studio with Howard Benson since on all previous efforts the band worked with
Mark Townsend. Well the end result says it loud and clear- a change will
sometimes do you some good. The band wrapped up the 2006 Nintendo Fusion tour on
November 11th in Chicago and intend to enjoy themselves over the holidays even
though they hate Christmas Parties! (great song by the way)
