Lifeforce Records have welcome Cassius to their ever extending USA family
of Metal heads. "I Am Jim Jones" is their smashing debut record that will over
power your instincts and force you to reckon with it's hardcore sound. Back in
the winter of 2003 snowflakes were falling and icicles were forming the band
Cassius was born kicking and defiantly screaming to make sure all has heard.
Personally this CD is way to heavy for me, but I know plenty of metal crusaders
that would kill for a taste of this. They recorded "I am Jim Jones" with Chris
Dowhan at Red Planet Studios. Dowhan has worked with some of the greats like
Black Dahlia Murder, Twelve Tribes, and Scarlet.
Cassius have already played with many well established bands such as: Eyes
Of The Dead, Ed Gein, Despised Icon, and Misery Signals. These guys have
previously went out on tour without even having an album under their belts. Now
I think that is something that I have heard for the first time, I can't recall
any other acts with this under their belt. I think that takes some big brass
balls to do but Cassius were beyond determined to make it big. Jesus when the
track "Home" kicked off it scared the shit outta me. It just was brutal from the
first breath, I actually jumped! This is one band you don't have to remind to
stay brutal. I think Cassius will have no problem what so ever claiming their
territory.
The more I listened to "I am Jim Jones" The more it grew on me like the
grassy green mold on a trees cool damp bark. "Relate and Subtract" is a calm
break in the slaughter that's bein' thrown upon you on the next track "Funeral
March" This whole EP is an aggressive shock to the system but you manage to
maintain your stature because just about every other track shamelessly charges
you back up. Lifeforce Records sure know how to pick them, this past year they
have produced a lot of the bands I have reviewed. Each time I think they can't
get any heavier....they do!
